This thread is to introduce ricdinchirock to play by post roleplay. So, to start off, why don't you come up with a character and describe him/her for me? Either in a profile format, or written as you would introduce him/her to a group roleplay. You can pick whatever genre or setting you want to work with.

It was raining as if the sky was an upturned bucket when a man dressed in a white suit and black shirt stepped through the door of the book store. He looked to be around 18 years of age with a head of almost painfully white hair ant blue ayes that almost radiated friendliness. He put away his umbrella and asked the shopkeeper, "Hello. How are you doing today? What with all this rain anyway."

((All right, that's a good start. A bit blunt, but that'll get better with practice.)) "Oh, it's been like this for a long time... I never really questioned it much," The man replied dryly. "Can I help you find something?" He looked down his nose at the younger man, summing him up with his nearly white eyes. There was something very cold in his manner that was accentuated by how very clean his work-space was.

"Oh I was just looking to see if you had any manuscripts from gunsmiths or the like." the man said, perusing a shelf of old-looking books.

((All right, so the substance isn't all bad, though I don't think that "manuscripts" is quite the word you were looking for. In this case, we're going for length. A short reply is all right every once in a while, but you generally want to get your post to longer than one line. At least three is preferable.))
"Are you looking for information on their manufacture or their sale?" The shopkeep quirked his eyebrows, coming out from behind the desk and running his fingers along the spines of the books, looking for something. Straightening his cobalt blue waistcoat, he waited for an answer, standing with perfect posture off to the side. His expression was perfectly unreadable, very blank, even stoic.

"Actually, I was looking for the notes from the people who hand crafted guns. I'm not sure that that was actually true, so I started searching for information on the subject." The man explained animatedly as if talking of the next greatest archaeological find. "Oh, wait, I never formally introduced myself!" he said suddenly. "I am Rick R. Diamond." he said with a slight bow.

((Better. Pretty good style, too.)) "Beryl." The phlegmatic shopkeeper introduced himself in response, giving him a hard look before returning to the shelves. "We haven't got much on the subject, I'm afraid, but what we do have should be right here, on this shel-" He was just indicating a different shelf in another section of the small store when the back door flew open with a crash that made him jump. A dark-haired man just a hair under average height burst in, holding his worn hat to his head to keep it from falling off as he charged in.
"Beryl! We have a problem!" He stopped, leaning over and out of breath. "Oh... I see we have a customer. Welcome, sir," He smiled and bowed, though still trying to catch his breath. ((Right, so here, clearly I have something planned, but I'm leaving space for others to react first. This is part of the purpose of an out of character thread, so that plot points like this can be properly discussed before they happen. In this case, we'll just sort of play it by ear.))

"Is there something I could do to help sir?" Rick said with mild confusion and interest. "I have a few skills that may be of use." He was quite worried considering the manner of which the man had entered. Judging by the volume of the door's slam, he wouldn't be surprised to see its hinges broken and the wall next to it cracked. The man must have traveled very far very fast to be this out of breath. Rick had never seen such urgency since...

((All good up until that last bit. A bit of vagueness is good, but at least finish your thought.)) "Well..." He narrowed his eyes at Rick, clearly analyzing the situation. With a communicative glance at Beryl, he continued. "I suppose we could use a hand." "What exactly is the problem, Darrin, and why does it warrant dragging a customer into it?" Ever to the point, Beryl tapped his foot on the floor. "Someone's tampering with the ward on Gatting's place. For you, sir," He said, pointing to Rick. "Someone is trying to undo a spell that we've put on the Gatting house on the edge of town. It's a protective spell, and so the fact that someone's messing with it is a bit worrisome." "A bit?" Beryl started for the door without warning, grabbing his coat along the way. "That's more than 'a bit' worrisome, that's bad. Mr. Gatting is housing some very influential witnesses in a current court case. I'll put it as briefly as possible for you, Mr. Diamond, and say that lives are at stake."

"I see." Rick said, understanding the situation. To most others outside of himself, he might seem a bit calm for this scenario, if not a little bit irritated, but in truth, he has dealt with far worse in his lifetime. "I know of magic," he stated plainly, "I'm even quite good at it." He holds up his hand to form a small sphere of light in his palm. "So what do you suggest is done? reinforce the ward? find who's tampering with it? All of the above?" He was prepared to deal with an extremely powerful force, judging by the men standing before him and what he felt to be their amount of skill. These were no ordinary men, either.

((Sorry I took so long. It's been busy on my end.)) "First priority is re-enforcing the ward." Beryl, just as cool as Rick seemed to be, was already at the door. "Well? What are you waiting for? We have to get going." With an impatient tap of the foot, he waited for the other two. "Ah, sorry. I'll meet you out there. You go on ahead, Mr. Diamond, Beryl will explain what's been going on. You don't seem like you're from around here," Darrin scrambled to the back again, presumably to get his coat.

"So, where are we headed? You guys didn't give me much to go off of." Rick said as they exited the shop. "I'll also be wanting a description of the ward you used so I know what we're up against." The reason this question was asked is due to the fact that not all similar types of spells function the same, two different barrier spells could act the same, but have different casting and breaking methods.

"East of town. If you came in that way, you probably saw it." Darrin replied, hopping up on top of a little green wagon that seemed to be the conveyance that the two used to get around. Beryl got up as well, intending to drive the animals that pulled it. "Oh, you might want to hold on." Darrin warned as he gave Rick a hand up. "Beryl drives pretty fast," It looked like he had been about to say something, but he cut himself short, recalling something else. "It's a woven ward. We're both weavers, he and I, though he's much better at it than I am." Darrin carried on, still talking. "You'll see it clear enough once we get there. Oh, and do you happen to have any edibles on you?" He asked, seemingly offhand. ((The substance is all right, but you might want to think about how you say it. I find that using an inner monologue for that kind of stuff is better. So, like this, maybe: I wonder what kind of spell they're using? They look like channeling casters, but I've never seen anyone cast a ward that way... I'll need to know if I'm going to help. The character's thoughts are usually put in italics, by the by.))

"Ah, I see." Rick said as he hopped up onto the wagon with Darrin's help. "Luckily that's one of my stronger casting types, I'm even a bit of an innovator in that field." [No wonder it's of such alarm that a ward is being tampered with... weaved wards are known for being hard to break. Maybe someone has found a way to unravel them?]

((You got the first part, but it looks like you just sort of ignored the rest of the post. Also, your post is coming up a bit short again. The brackets are an interesting idea, but they break the flow of your post, so you really should use italics.)) "You don't say," Darrin responded, seeming to be quite used to the jarring jerks of the cart going over the unmaintained road into town. "In that case, we'll get this finished right up, won't we?" He smiled as they picked up speed. Soon enough, they were within view of the estate. A thick stone wall surrounded it, with a wrought iron gate fixed securely into the masonry. It appeared as if it would be quite good at keeping people out, had it been locked. As it was, it was standing open, with a wispy man standing by. It appeared he had been waiting for them. "Afternoon, Reid." Beryl tipped his hat, nodding to the stranger. Based on his mode of dress, he worked for the owner of the house. "See it?" Darrin, dropping his voice quite low, pointed out the unraveling ward. As of yet, it was still a rather small hole, but if something weren't done about it, things could go from bad to worse quite quickly.

((I don't know how to use italics! D:)) "I see it all right." Rick said,"That hole could get quite bad if something isn't done about it" He stepped from the wagon to the small road leading to the gate. "Hello sir, I am Rick Diamond and I have come to help about that ward problem." He said with a small bow to the wispy man. 'What could have caused this kind of hole, I've never seen anything like it. it's almost as if someone pulled an important thread from a piece of fabric causing it to completely unravel into a pile of thread, just very slowly, though.'

((Oh, okay, that's easy enough. Either hit 'reply' and use the buttons instead of the quick reply box, or use the tags to italicise. Just put your text between them.)) "I'll see you up at the house. I'll check in with Mr. Gatting." Beryl excused himself, urging the animals up towards the house. Darrin, too, had dismounted. "I suppose," Reid blinked, remaining perfectly composed. "I don't know much about magic, I'm afraid." Clearly, he was unused to this form of communication. "Right, then, we should go have a look." Darrin had already set off a short ways towards the tear. "Well, what's this?" Darrin scaled the stone wall and stood atop it to get a better look at it, wincing slightly as he did so. Inspecting it closely, he picked out a string or two, inspecting them and their place in the weft. "What do you make of it? Seems to me like it was deliberate. Being manipulated from in town, I would imagine." He tapped his chin, squinting at the problem as if to make sense of it. "Oh, dear, you might want to get up here." His focused mood changed abruptly as the sound of quick footsteps became audible. Yannik, the Labrador-sized juvenile drake, seemed about ready to make a new acquaintance- and that usually involved throwing around all of his weight, which was quite considerable.

"Oh?" Rick said just before getting pounced on by the drake. Just before impact, however, he seemed so slide right underneath and behind the massive thing. "And who is this playful little one?" He asked with a grin on his face at the drake. He then clambered up the wall to meet Darrin. "Hmm..." Rick said, deep in thought, "you're right, this definitely seems deliberate, even meticulous. I wonder who is capable of this?" What could have done this? The precision is too extreme to be human. Some other force must be at work here. "Well, shall we get started on repairs? Or do you want to check for any other holes?" Who knows what kind of scale this is on?

"We'll fix this first," Beryl replied before Darrin had a chance to, approaching them and attempting to keep his dignity intact with the drake jumping at him excitedly. "Yannik," A thickly accented voice came from behind him, a woman's voice. Upon hearing his name, the drake sat down, though the excitement still shone in his bright eyes. "This is Hagar, one of the people the ward is supposed to be protecting." Beryl introduced her with a gesture before setting to work on the ward. He worked quickly, clearly very used to manipulating the weave. "Nice to meet you," She made a short bow of recognition before putting her hands on her hips. She clearly was a person unused to living in a nice estate- her clothing placed her among the lower classes of society, but her no-nonsense stance seemed to say 'what of it?'. A scar across the bridge of her nose stood out, but her expression was anything but beaten. "We should go to town. Will you be accompanying us, Miss Hagar?" Darrin glanced between the three of them. "You stop it with that 'miss', I told you so already." She tapped her foot, but then continued. "Yes. It's awful being stuck here all day."

"That sounds wonderful, but first we should really fix the ward." Beryl was almost complete with the repairs when Rick said this."My, you do work fast," He said to Beryl,"but I have an idea as to how we can discourage whoever is doing this.I suggest that we place a layer ward, I will place a barrier ward and maybe even a repulsion ward to be safe, this way it will be extremely time consuming if not practically impossible to gain access into this area." Rick then crated a small, spherical ward above his hand, demonstrating what he was planning. He placed a woven ward, then enveloped it with a barrier, and finally cast a repulsion shield around that. "What do you think?"
